Tex-Mex Night was our favourite, we loved topping our nachos and creating some exciting fajita combinations. We made our own Navajo fry bread for lunch, it was super fun to make, we ate it with syrup and ice cream. Yum. Following our hot dog and pancakes night, we have a fun 'American Anthems' karaoke - 'Don't Stop Believing' was our definite favourite. We have been making good progress with our 'where in the world' challenge, this week trying to pin point famous landmarks on our world map.
To finish our 'taste of america' week we enjoyed some yummy scrummy cinnamon and raisin bagels for breakfast. Then made some very gooey s'mores bars. We started our Asia week by creating some stunning oriental cherry blossom pictures and then turning them into lanterns. We looked carefully at some peacock feathers and then painted the tail on a beautiful Indian peacock painting, and finished our arty day by colouring some Asian 'dress up' dolls from Japan, China, Burma and Mongolia We had lots of fun dressing up in our Chinese costumes and dancing to different Asian music, we also enjoyed a tea party just like Mulan. We had an Indian curry night, where we tried chicken korma, chicken tikka masala, samosas, rice, naan breads and popadoms - followed by some birthday cupcakes. The little one's favourite craft of the week was making some 'Mulan inspired' lotus flower hair clips. We think they look beautiful. Today was the Autumn equinox so we donned our wellies and waterproofs and headed to the woods. We spent some time looking for 'signs of autumn', the little ones spotted toadstools, berries and leaves changing colour. But the best bit of all was getting to splash in the muddy puddles and run through the trees.
For sea otter awareness week we had fun colouring in pictures of sea otters and making some fun otter pencil holders.
We found some caterpillars in the garden, and brought them into the playroom. We found lots of things they liked to eat and watched them getting fatter and fatter. Our caterpillars have now all wrapped themselves up and turned into chrysalises. We are keeping them in our playroom to see if they will turn into butterflies or moths in the spring.
We started our around the world tour in Australia... The Aussie surf & turf meal night was a hit with homemade 'BBQ burgers' and 'Fish Sticks'. Followed by Birthday Cupcakes. We tried our hand at Aboriginal rock paintings (although some turned to body art...) while some of our children enjoyed the challenge of charting Captain Cook's voyages and finding the places he visited on our world map. On Friday we found out about the great barrier reef. We enjoyed watching finding nemo then making some super yummy 'Nemo's Reef' cupcakes and some 'cut and stick' reef pictures.
Next we got stuck in making some 'Enormous Crocodile' bookmarks - they loved munching on our fingers. After school we enjoyed some relaxing colouring sheets featuring our favourite Quentin Blake illustrations. For tea we enjoyed 'Fantastic Mr Fox's' Chicken Buffet followed by our very gooey 'Bruce Bogtrotter' chocolate cake! And to finish the day off we had a cinema night, we all settled down to enjoy 'Matilda' with some fresh made popcorn - we can't wait till next year.
This week our chickens laid their first eggs. We were very excited to try them, one even turned out to be a 'double-yolker'. Scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast, yum, yum.
