We started our half-term with a fun games morning testing out our new football table. Then we headed out for the first visit in our Captain Cook trail where we went in search of the grave of James Cook Snr (Captain Cook's Dad) buried in Marske. Following this we had some fun on the beach, playing games and enjoying the creepy misty weather. We spent a day visiting the woods, we found lots of signs of autumn and visited the den we built in the summer. It was still standing and still sturdy - we were all very impressed. We added more branches and started weaving smaller twigs and leaves through the den to make the walls solid. We are hoping to go back and visit our den again in the winter to see how it stands up to the weather. To end the week we had great fun visiting the Yorkshire Wildflife park where we saw 'lions & tigers & bears'. The special spooky Halloween scenes were lots of fun and we loved watching all the animals.
To start our African safari theme, we set up our playmobil safari and enjoyed 'The Lion King'. We also made some super African animal masks. For our African themed food night we enjoyed a Moroccan Tangene. We have tomato spice tangene vegetables, couscous and chicken. To finish Africa Week, we read one of our favourite stories 'Handa's Suprise' complete with our own bowl of Handa's fruits. We enjoyed carrying the basket of fruits just like Handa and trying all the interesting and unusual fruits.
We really love making Mug Cake, this is the recipe for our favourite version.
> In a LARGE mug put 6 pieces of chocolate and a 1cm thick slice of butter - melt them together in the microwave for 45 seconds. > Beat in 1 egg into the mixture. > Next stir in 2 rounded desert spoons of sugar followed by 4 and a half rounded desert spoons of plain flour. > Finally mix in 1 teaspoon of baking power and a teaspoon of vanilla essence. > Bake the mixture in the microwave for 2 minutes :) then enjoy We started our south american week by spinning our own wool. We used fibre from alpacas and a drop spindle. We had to twist the spindle to make the wool. Next we cut some llama shapes out of card and used our wool to weave them warm jumpers. We enjoyed south american BBQ chicken with Samba rice for our taste of south america, and had lots of fun playing our around the world game and dressing up. Taco night was a big success, we really enjoyed stuffing our tacos and then trying to eat them without dropping our filling. Our little ones enjoyed wrapping their own 'Peruvian Peg Dolls' and then we had a Caribbean kebab night with Jamican Jerk Chicken and tropical fruits.
Europe week was busy, we started off with Pizza night, having fun creating our own combinations of bases, sauces and toppings at our 'pizza bar'. Our next 'where in the world' challenge - this time featuring animals from around the world and our favourite Disney characters. The after school children are getting very competitive trying to win the most points. Frozen Friday was great fun, we built (or just ate the pieces) our own olafs and created 'Do You Want to Build a Snowman' treat bags for nursery's cake day. Then we made an Elsa castle and acted out the story.
