Behaviour Management Policy and Procedure
All children have the right to be cared for in a happy and safe environment, therefore promoting positive behaviour is very important. We do this by:
It is important to ensure that all children know what is expected of them and what the boundaries are. In order to achieve this we have some house rules which set reasonable and appropriate standards. We help the children understand the house rules and we are consistent in delivering the same message.
We will endeavor to keep to routines so that your child does not become over tired or hungry as this could adversely affect their mood and subsequently their behaviour.
We have several different strategies on how to deal with inappropriate behaviour and will use the most appropriate strategy, depending on the child and the situation:
We will not humiliate your child.
Physical restraint will only be used if it is absolutely essential to protect your child or other people from harm (eg running into the road or hitting another child). You will be informed if this has been necessary.
If a child’s behaviour gives us cause for concern, we will endeavor to discuss it with you at the earliest opportunity, so that we can work together for the benefit of your child. We will inform you of how any behaviour issues involving your child have been dealt with. In most cases, no further action will be required as we prefer to deal with incidents immediately. It can be confusing and upsetting for a child to revisit the incident once it has been dealt with.
If you have any concerns regarding the management of your child’s behaviour, please do not hesitate to contact us. It is important that we work together in order not to confuse your child.
All children have the right to be cared for in a happy and safe environment, therefore promoting positive behaviour is very important. We do this by:
- Giving lots of praise for good behaviour.
- Giving the children individual attention so they feel valued.
- Setting a good example by being a good role model.
- Listening to what the children have to say and valuing their opinions.
- Rewarding good behaviour, eg choosing the next activity or giving out stickers.

We have several different strategies on how to deal with inappropriate behaviour and will use the most appropriate strategy, depending on the child and the situation:
- Distraction – we will remove the child from the situation and give them an alternative activity.
- Ignore - depending on the situation we may choose to ignore the bad behaviour if we feel it is being done to get a reaction and is not impacting on any other child.
- Discuss the situation with the child. If the child is able to understand we will discuss their behaviour and try and get them to appreciate the consequences of their actions on others. We will ensure that they understand that it is their behaviour we do not like, not them.
