Missing Child Policy and Procedure
At Fiddlesticks, the safety of your child is our top priority and they will always be supervised to minimise the risk of them coming to any harm or getting lost. We will teach the children about safety when we are out and about and advise them (age appropriately) of what to do, should they become lost or separated from us.
If in the unlikely circumstance that a child goes missing, we will immediately instigate a search of the area and alert other responsible adults in the vicinity, such as staff in a park or library and security guards in a shopping centre. If we are unable to locate the child quickly (within minutes), we will contact the police and provide them with a full description of the missing child. As professional registered childminders, we are required to have a Missing Child Policy. However, please be reassured that we will take every precaution to minimise any risks. This will include:
- Keeping young children in pushchairs whilst in busy public areas.
- Use of reigns.
- Holding children’s hands or ensuring they hold on to the pushchair.
- We will avoid taking children to overcrowded areas.
- We will attach our mobile contact details to children’s backpacks or zippers so that they may ask for help if they become separated.
- We will carry out regular risk assessments regarding all activities to highlight any dangers and put preventative procedures in place.
